Steffans Legal Files Nationwide Class Action Alleging Wage-and-Hour Violations

Earlier this week, Steffans Legal filed a nationwide class action in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio against a national chemical manufacturing company. We are partnering with Sommers Schwartz on this matter.

In Knowlton and Marston et al. v. Ashland Global Holdings Inc. et al., we’ve alleged that the employer failed to pay wages to their employees for all hours worked. Specifically, we believe that the employer unlawfully failed to pay employees for the time they spent putting on and removing (“donning and doffing”) protective clothing and protective gear such as chemical resistant clothing and steel-toed boots. The employees were required to put on this protective clothing and equipment prior to punching in and were required to take it off after they punched out. As a result, this activity was done off the clock and was not counted as hours worked for wage-and-hour purposes.

Steffans Legal represents individuals in unpaid wage claims under the Massachusetts Wage Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act across Massachusetts, including in Pittsfield, Springfield, Worcester, Lowell, Fall River, New Bedford, and Cape Cod. If you have questions regarding whether you should be paid for time spent putting on protective clothing and equipment, contact us today for a free consultation.
