Steffans Legal Files Wage and Hour Class Action on Behalf of Gold Medal Bakery Employees in Fall River
On January 14, 2020, Steffans Legal filed a wage and hour class action in US District Court - Boston on behalf of current and former employees of Gold Medal Bakery located in Fall River, Massachusetts.
In Prince et al. v. Gold Medal Bakery, Inc. we allege that Gold Medal Bakery failed to pay wages, including overtime wages, to employees for all hours worked. Specifically, we allege that employees were not paid for time spent putting on and taking off (“donning and doffing”) personal protective equipment and clothing including shirts, pants, safety glasses, hairnets, beard nets, earplugs, and helmets. Instead, Gold Medal Bakery required employees to don and doff their protective equipment and clothing before punching in and after punching out of the employer’s time keeping system. We allege that Gold Medal Bakery applied this policy to a large amount of employees, including those in production, wrapping, shipping, inspection, sanitation, quality control, and maintenance. We also allege that Gold Medal Bakery violated state and federal wage-and-hour laws by not compensating these employees for the time spent walking, off the clock, to and from the work station.
